Mother’s Day: gift DIYS

Mother’s Day is coming up, and if you don’t know what to get her, here are some DIY gifts to show your appreciation!

1. “I’ll love you forever” picture frame

Materials:

  • picture frame
  • paper
  • pens/markers
  • extra decorations

Instructions:

  1. Take your paper and write the quote “I’ll love you forever. I’ll like you for always. As long as I’m living, my mother you’ll be” on the center of the paper. (You can cut the paper to be whatever size you prefer.)
  2. Decorate the paper with marker or any stickers you have.
  3. Frame the paper (make sure the frame fits the paper) and present it to your mom on mother’s day!

2. Scrabble “mother” frame

Materials:

  • scrabble pieces
  • picture frame
  • cardstock (plain or any pattern you want)
  • paint (in your mom’s favorite color)
  • white marker
  • hot glue
  • stickers/decorations

Instructions:

  1. Paint six scrabble pieces with your paint. Let it dry and then spell out the word “mother” with the white marker. Each letter will go on a different scrabble piece.
  2. Line the pieces up vertically on the card stock. Make sure not to glue all of your pieces until the end so you can layout all of your pieces and see where they want to go.
  3. Spell out adjectives that describe your mom, using the remaining scrabble pieces. Your first adjective should have the letter “M” in it, your second, the letter “O”, and so on.
  4. Once you have all of your pieces laid out, glue them down to the paper.
  5. Decorate the paper to your liking and frame it. Now you have the perfect Mother’s day gift!

3. Tissue paper poppies

Materials:

  • colored tissue paper (dark yellow, light yellow, green, purple, pink or any other colors you prefer your flowers to be)
  • green pipe cleaners
  • foil
  • hot glue
  • scissors
  • bleach
  • water
  • jar/vase

Instructions:

  1. Gather your materials and use the foil make 1/2 inch balls. Glue the foil balls onto the pipe cleaners.
  2. Wrap a few balls with green tissue paper making a 1 inch ball. These will form your flower “buds.”
  3. Cut out squares with the yellow tissue paper and wrap it around the remaining foil balls. Secure the ends with a little hot glue.
  4. Cut out a 3 inch by 1.5 inch rectangle of yellow tissue paper. Fold it in half and fringe the ends with scissors. Glue the fringe around the base of the ball. Do this to each of your flowers.
  5. Mix 1 tbsp. of bleach and 1.5 cups of water in a cup. You will use this for the next step.
  6. With your different petal colors, cut out multiple strips of paper around 9 inches by 2 inches. (You can vary the size depending on how big you want your petals to be.) Dip one end of the strip, horizontally, into the bleach mixture. Leave it in for about three seconds then the it out. Hang it and let it dry.
  7. Fold your dried piece of tissue paper into six layers. With the paper still folded, cut out a petal shape. You should end up with six petals per strip.
  8. Take your flower stem and glue three petals around the stem.Layer the last three petals over the first three petals and glue them. Make as many flowers as you want.
  9. Crunch the petals and then gently open them to create a flower petal effect. Put all of your poppies into a jar or vase and your perfect Mother’s day gift is complete!
